I heard a rumor that a bill was introduced that would allow anyone to carry concealed without a pistol permit.

Anyone heard that?

There was a no permit carry bill in AL back in early 2019, but it was shot down do to objections from law enforcement

"currently when criminals see a law enforcement officer they will toss a weapon and run. If the permit requirement is abolished, they will carry that weapon without concern."

The most I see now is a lifetime permit, which would save some time and money

Hmm I wish they would pass the bill already for permitless carry. I hate to have to renew, I can do it online now but it’s still a wait for the mail and stuff.

Limestone County is fill out electronic form, pay, get confirmation to come pick it up next business day within minutes.

What doesn't make sense is due to the law I don't have to pay for the permit but they will only allow me to renew for a year. Other veterans in various other Alabama counties report that they get 5 year permits. That makes sense and saves money.
Yes. Jefferson County allows you to purchase a five year permit. Very nice. Just gotta remember to renew.

Up to 5 years in at Clair also at 15 a year.

I can renew online or get a new one but I still either have to go pick it up at the sheriffs office or mail a self addressed envelope to them to have them mail it back which in either case is still not helping me renew or get a new one. It still cost me either way I go in money or time so why even offer online if it still an inconvenience to the people.

Constitutional Carry has been introduced and rejected in committee every year for several years now, the sheriffs keep lobbying against it because they want the income from permits (taxing a right is unconstitutional BTW).

Permits are 20 a year here in Pike, good for between 1 and 5 years. No online renewals I'm aware of though.

The Criminals Carry Without Concern Regardless! Why?, Because they are criminals!!! Whether they toss the gun or not when they see LE has no bearing on whether or not the bill should pass. If they toss it what do they do? They procure another one by whatever means....Remember they are criminals and they will carry regardless. These anti constitutional nanny state regulations only effect the Law abiding Citizens of this State. Law enforcement is trained to treat everyone as if they are armed....Hello, what are we missing here?... The only ones effected are the law abiding citizens who must pay a fee and ask permission to carry in order to protect ones family and their lives. Something is wrong with this picture and all you have to do is just follow the money! That is it plain and simple. They can dress it up or dress it down however they wish but the bottom line is the dollars that they are sucking out of the law abiding tax paying citizens have made them fat and they don't want to give it up...Period!

Let's say it does pass, can I get reimbursed for the money I have already paid? I am on year 1 of a 5 year license, can I get reimbursed for the other 4? Just wondering.

Highly doubtful, however it wouldn't be a total waste as it would still work for reciprocity with other states.

I doubt it the sheriff's department get free money yearly from thousands of people and barely have to lift a finger.
