We don't have much open space for long distance shooting around here but I've made an ~850 yard shot down a powerline with my Tikka T3x in .300 Win Mag with Vortex Razor AMG

I was invited to a Gunwerks long range course in Cody, WY a few years ago. Lots of good instruction on basic fundamentals.

I became comfortable with 4-500 yard shots and was able to hit a “steel” elk target at 1300 yards. First shot was low, but dialed it in after.

I also learned that I prefer 6.5cm over 308, particularly at longer ranges.

I don't have any really long shots where I shoot/hunt so I don't really have any long range experience. I've hit paper at 100 yards and a deer at about 75 and that's it.

About 300 is all I've practiced at. My longest shot at an animal has only been about 125 yards. I prefer easy shots when hunting.
Comfort Zone/Humane Kill... That's Great Static...Stay within the range that you are comfortable with...The Animal Deserves a Humane Kill!!! There's nothing wrong with long range hunting if you're well trained and have the capable equipment...Take Care.

I used to shoot 1000 yard High Power with eother 6.5x55 or 6.5-06 but my longest was a 36" steel plate at 1850 yards using a friend's .338 Lapua.

600yds, last day of a 14 day Elk Hunt in the Colorado Flat top Wildersness. Had gone up from base camp to about 11,000 ft on horseback with my late Pops and his buddy. I decided to leave them and plow snow up a hill once I crested that hill I spotted 50 head of Elk down in a valley below walking away from my position the Bulls were way out of range nothing but Cows in shotable distance so I plugged a trailing cow for meat. With the over all elevation, ambient temp and drop in shooting elevation (around -350 ft from my shooting position) I knew my 7mm mag was going to have some serious bullet lift. First shot missed with the cross hairs at the bottom of its chest but I could see that the cow ducked as it hit an Aspen behind it. I dropped 12" below the chest and split it's spine directly above the lung area, dropped dead in its tracks. My father had lost a shooting bet with me before the hunt started. He lost another bet when I hollered at them to bring the horses. He said wheres it at son? I said you see that dark spot in the snow down there. Both him and his buddy said bullshit!
That is the best Hunting trip ever with the Pop's and a crazy morning shot atleast for me.

First gen Browning ABolt SS Stalker 7mm mag, Leupold 3.5x10x50, Burris SS rings and bases.

Well I have shot at the moon a few times, I think that's my longest shot. I did Kill a deer at 450 yards in South Texas. A long sendaro probably a half mile out Encinal Texas. Fabulous place to hunt back in the 80s.

Are all of you shooting long range somewhere in Alabama? I haven't seen a single range that went past 300 yards.
