Hey welcome to the forum, there are a couple of ways to go about it.
Traditional - go to a gun shop not like academy but maybe like your local gun place. And trade it on another gun or take it to a pawn shop.

or

list it for sale in the firearm marketplace with your location a couple of pics, price and after you and a buyer agree on a price meet up with them and I always ask to see their ID and sometimes I use a bill of sale and keep it for your records.

the FSBO way a lot of times gets you a better return but pawning or trading is quicker.

the sd40 S&W series is a good start forearm that is built truly like the glock 23 40cal.

Thank you, I've only shot old Long Guns so it could be more of my inexperience. The guy who recommend it has a 9mm version and he shot mine and said it was a lot different. Not sure what FSBO is i'm sorry for the silly questions i may have more to come. I really appreciate the advice and i will try it again today to make sure its what i wanna do. It is new so i'm afraid to put too many rounds through it as i don't know how much it would depreciate the value.

40cal is a larger round but what are some things you do not like about it?

FSBO - For Sale By Owner

As long as your not taking it to the range 5 days a week and shooting the hell out it, never cleaning it and trashing it in a sense it will retain most value already.
I know after around 1000 rounds usually the trigger get better and the trigger in those are alittle long many people out in apex triggers which lowers the pull weight from 5.5-6.5 lbs to around 3.5-4 lbs and makes the reset a lot closer.

I'm not a fan of the trigger you are correct, so maybe it will get better and i believe the mags may be a problem they rattle and i can see the ammo move in the mags so i bought another one and its does the same thing also only able to get 12 shots off in a 14 round mag just kinda sketched me out and a small thing like the grip my hands might be not a good fit not sure. honestly only 36 rounds have when through it so ill see if its just the mags and i may need to buy aftermarket because now that i think about it all three mags have a really hard time going in and it wasn't just for me but some other guys stronger and more experienced.

Oh I understand the 40cal is a harder round to rack. I had the sd9 when they first came out and I honestly wouldn’t carry it everyday. I ended up getting rid of mine. I carry a Taurus PT-111 9mm usually. It’s smaller and lighter it’s the first version of the Taurus GC2 now.
I would recommend you going to a range that offers rentals and trying a few fervent firearms in price ranges you want.

Are you stuck in the 40 cal or would yo buy a 9mm?

No not stuck on 40 cal was looking for 9mm but they didn't have one. Speaking of taurus one of my friends had a 40 cal one basically the taurus version of mine i suppose and i liked it so much more but this was after the purchase. Yes i would like a 9mm.

I would highly recommend:

canik tp9sf or elite sc
Taurus GC2
S&W m&p shield

I tend to favor sub compacts over full size frames.

The S&W SDVE line up was never considered good. The M&P line up is their flagship line of pistols. I have the shield 9mm great gun easy to shoot and can be found for around 329-389.00. I have never had much luck with the Taurus pistols. When I first got into carry guns when I turned 19 I had several of Taurus millennium pros and everyone I bought I would have to send back to Taurus to get them fixed. So I stopped buying them. Today people praise the G3c as a great cheap gun. If I was you I would look into a Glock. Not to cheap but one of the best pistols made. Very reliable. Easy to shoot. It’s always best to spend the extra money to buy a good solid gun.

The SD-xVE series IS considered to be a fine, reliable, and accurate pistol. So is the M&P series.

The current models have been refined from the earlier one and I will feel as comfortable carrying the SDVE as any glock, M&P, or H&K I have when I'm out and about.

I'm personally not a fan of anything outside of the M&P lineup from S&W. But I also carry a FN FNX-9 daily and own a few other pistols and long guns that ride with me occasionally as well.

Knowing what I do is similar to what @medic15al said about the SDVE line of pistols. Just a generally ill conceived lineup across the board. If you want to spend money to fix it up to what you want then you need to look at some of the other weapons like FN, Sig Sauer, Glock, S&W M&P, Canik, IWI, Wilson Combat, etc... for better fitting and better feeling handguns.

It sounds like you're on the right path. Try some out and see what you like. If you don't like the one you have, get rid of it. No sense it keeping it around if you don't like shooting it.

I will Second everything Coach just said concerning S&W Autos except that I would add that the S&W Revolvers (Wheel Guns) are still Fine Weapons with some of the Finest out of the Box Triggers out there!!! Although the newer lineup takes a Back Seat to their Earlier Predecessors ie: Pre Lock,Pinned Barrels, etc. Hope this Helps You...God Bless. ;)

PS. His Take on the S&W Autos is Spot On!!!
