Getting back in to the swing of builds. Wanted a coyote gun, so I went 224. Started with a Mega matched upper and lower, Zev Handguard, Craddock precision bolt and barrel. Decides to finish with a trjicon accupower. For those interested, is was marked PS119:105. “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Done, I didn’t notice cause I used the sidebar to click on it.

I want to shoot it now.

How does the 224 compare to the 223 or 5.56 round?

I haven’t shot this one yet....heavier bullet with a better ballistics coefficient. Supposedly supersonic to 1300 yards. Should be good for coyotes....

Nice! Please keep us updated with some range reports.

I am really curious to see how far you shoot it and what kind of groups you get at longer ranges, and with what ammo

I wanted to put together a 224, but I went 6.5CM instead. I still might make a 224, on the fence.

So it turns out that my low profile (adjustable) gas block isn't low enough....or hand rail inside diameter isn't big enough.

I thought I was going to be a cool kid and run a 16" rail with 18" barrel. I've decided to get a 15" apex handguard. I've used them before with adjustable gas systems and they are big enough diameter wise:

Picked up some Federal 90gr Fusion ammo from Cabelas....so we're close.

Head space gauges should come this week.

Valkyrie is finished. I did initial check at 25 yards. Need to dial gas and zero at 100.

Haven’t really settled on a round. I’ve tried Federal 75 and 90gr match. I think I prefer the 90 gr since it’s for coyotes. I need to get a better idea of grouping before I settle on one.

Open to suggestions too.

I have done a good bit of reading about the 224, everything seems to contradict everything else :) I am just curious to see/hear some real life experience

Those 2 rounds would be what I would test out to start. I have heard stories of people buying the 90 grain federal fusions and removing the bullets and putting in other bullets like the Sierra MatchKing Bullet 224 Diameter 95 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail and having better luck at distance, but who knows
