Time for an update, I went to the CMP in Talladega. Its been over a year since I was there and it looks like they have a new process to shoot 600 yards if you are new (and not having been there in over a year made me new)

I am starting off with a pic of the range, was a perfect day 85F and sunny, very little wind, but some

I took the AR10 6.5 down to the 100 yard range, had to qualify 3 shots, I forget how tight the group had to be to qualify, but mine were .9 MOA, and that was well within spec (I think they were looking for 1.5 MOA or better)

Then I moved up to the 200 yard (use the golf cart to get there, don't try to walk, ask me how I know). I was within 1 MOA for my 3 shots there, so moved on to the 300 yard target, I was slightly over 1 MOA at 300, but still good enough to move on, again I think they are looking for 1.5 MOA groups or better (the the general impression I got was they were looking to see if you had any idea how your scope worked and what ballistics were)

IN an earlier post here, I was speculating 3.7 MIL adjustment to get to 600 from my 100 yard zero. After a chat with the brilliant range office there John, he convinced me to try 3.5, and he was dead on, my first shot at 600 nailed almost center of the target

Here is a pic of my 8" group with the 6.5 (all the groups I did were about the same, didn't just pick the best one) I need more practice ;) and better ammo ;) I was shooting 140gr Hornady ELD Macth

While I was there figuring all this out, I brought along my DMR profile AR15 and did the same shooting steps with it as well
75gr Hornady match bullets, this ammo is not as consistent so a couple made the group loose.
10 shot group at 11.7 inches isn't horrible for a fist time 600 yard shoot

Now that I have this under my belt with the 6.5, I agree I need to find a 1000 yard range.

Does not appear to be an easy or affordable 1000 yard here in Alabama.

I have some friends up north that shoot at a place in West VA called Peacemaker, they go out to 1200 yards. I might have to haul my guns up there and take advantage of one of their free guest passes ;)

I am also going to do my next round of mods to the AR10 I have a VG6 Gamma 6.5 Muzzle Brake in hand that I need to get installed. Then I think I am going to order a PRS stock for it. I have one on the AR15 and really like it.
