Anyone know of a place to get a decent safe at a decent price in the Bham area?
Needs to be for longer items, not many, 10 to 12 rated capacity might work leaving plenty of room for other goods, fire resistant would be a plus.
No one in my area stocks anything less than 30+ capacity.

What price range
Under the $500 point I think. Like everyone, I would like to get the most for my money, but... I have limited space, funds and some specific ideas of what I want.
There are several advertised (Academy, TSC, etc.) that fit the bill, but none are stocked here. If I am going to drive to Bham, I would rather know of a place to go where they have stuff I can pick from.

Thanks for the input all. It seem no one stocks any smaller decent quality stuff. There is plenty of junk (based on reviews) for $4ooish out there, some of it is even available in stores.
There are some really good deals on the bigger ones, just doesn't fit my needs/space/weight class currently.

Sad really. Everyone "sells" 14 and 18 capacity but you can't buy them 'cause they don't actually have them/carry them.

While I would rather be in the $500 range there are a couple of $650ish Liberty/ProVaults that are just about perfect. Just can't go buy one. I guess I will order it online, wait my 20 weeks and pay the extra $150 in shipping.
Ticks me off. Have to spend as much as it would run to "walk in and buy" one twice the size.

I completely understand your thoughts budget and size wise. Just some food for thought from my experience and perspective. Rule of thumb is, if capacity is X# of guns or rifles, Actual usable capacity is half of that number. To me, A safe is an investment in security, peace of mind and utility. That being said, with a few exceptions, the bigger and heavier the better. If a safe is light enough for you to move, fairly easy, someone else can move it too. Depending on how it may be bolted down, a light safe can fairly easily be ripped up. Moving right along, a few years ago, I purchased my first safe. My collection of Guns had been increasing. I purchased a Century 64 gun safe. It was a Bi**h to move, but I found a way. That being said, if I put 64 long guns in that safe, you would have them stacked in there like sardines. You will have to pull out about half of the guns to get to a particular gun in the back. And then put them all back. That's what I refer to with the term "utility". Now granted, you can put a lot more hand guns than rifles in a given safe. I now, find myself in need of another. I understand the budget thing and I know that you know what your needs are. Search classifieds for used safes. I am. Ain't found it yet. All this to say, If you can (can) go bigger, you will have a much better selection from various vendors and not have to order online. Good luck and good shooting. Aim small, Miss small.
