Looking for a Marlin Model 60 Walnut stock these Birch stocks are easy to shape but they do not take stain good

With the stock trim down on the sides it will actually fit inside the magazine well of a Ruger 10/22

I did that to mine. Thinned it down all over and tried to stain it, but that turned out worse than the factory job. Went to Walmart and got a can of OD green spray paint, kinda looks like it came from the toy department now.
Think i thinned the grip area too much, it fell over while proped on my shooting bench and now it's got a pretty good crack in it.
