Researched a little more. The checkering on the gun would make it a 1400 model. The 140 did not have checkering, it was plain

The 1400 model has a 2 round capacity.

The old Model 1400, 1964-1981, and the Ranger Model 140, 1964-1968, was 2 shot mag.
They were the 1400 MK II from 1968-1972.
The new Model 1400, 1989-1994, and the Ranger 1400, 1991-1993, was 3 shot mag.
As far as I can tell, the only difference between the 1400 and Ranger is the 1400 had walnut stock and forend, and the Ranger had hardwood with walnut finish.
If it does not have the WinChoke screw-in choke, the MOD on the barrel is for a Modified choke. The WinChoke was introduced in 1969. Also, if the serial number begins with N, it was made after 1968.
Here is a pic of a Ranger unmarked Model and a marked Model 140.
I believe yours is an early Ranger, before they marked the Model 140 on them.
