Many gun owners have issues with their gun not extracting a fired casing or trouble getting the bolt all the way forward and locked (aka in battery). The most common cause is excessive carbon in the mouth and neck clearance (see pictures). Another cause is cartridge neck height. If your firing reloads or import ammo ensure the neck height is correct.
Bore brushes/bore snakes do not scrape these areas well. You must use a chamber brush and a good cleaning solvent to clean properly. If you start to see a black ring around the neck of your fired casings you are on the road to carbon build up. One of the many reasons to get a complete tear down cleaning done.
