They're going to make police encounters even more problematic

This has to be stopped with a big message that it would not be cool for them to try it again later.

Anyone who would be a threat to an officer or deputy would not disclose anything, so having this as a law will not affect those people. This would put peaceful people in a position where they have to decide if it's worth elevating a standard traffic stop to a potentially tense encounter where maybe an already nervous LEO has to deal with hearing about their concealed weapon that would never be any threat to them anyway.

Nothing about this makes it safer for anyone. It definitely makes these encounters more tense and therefore more dangerous than they have to be. Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin is either a malicious liar or a dangerously unqualified idiot.

The people who will catch charges on this will be peaceful people who don't know all the magic words that will pacify the overzealous and/or under- or ill-trained LEO they're interacting with. Based on the article, it's proposed to be a misdemeanor but not specifically what penalty this would carry, but any at all is unreasonable.

Y'all please reach out to your reps and Sheriff and let them know how politically suicidal this would be.

These are the same sheriffs that did everything they could to block constitutional carry for the last several years.

Currently, if an officer asks if you have a weapon, you already have to disclose whether or not you do. This just takes the responsibility away from the officer and puts it onto the general public.
