I don't have a 1911 So I just ordered my first one on rkguns.com. It's an SDS Imports Tisas US Army .45 ACP 5" 1911A1 regularly $399 and on sale for $319. I researched it online before I ordered and found lots of highly favorable reviews and comments. I can't wait to get it and try it out. Do any of you have experience with it or similar SDS Imports 1911 models?

That's funny, because I have a friend that has three and he told me the same thing, that I'll be right up there with him very soon.

Had a Tisas and a RIA for awhile, both shot well, RIA didnt like hollow points at all, but round nose and wad cutters shot fine. I think youll enjoy it.

I have one. It was a standard model and I have added a few things. The feed ramp is small on the model I have so it doesn't feed hollow point ammo all of the time. It is a very fun pistol to shoot and tinker with. Mine has the G.I. sights and shoots consistently to point of aim. I paid $300 back when they first started being imported. I love it.

I do think it'll be fun to tinker with. That was the goal; buy a relatively cheap 1911 to learn the platform.

I am looking at a Tisas Stingray. I have an issue I can get an American Ruger for just a $40 more or a Springfield.

I'm jumping into the 1911 world soon also. Looked at some of the more expensive Tisas, RIA's, etc. But I can get a Springfield Garrison (on the Firstline program)for about the same $$

Unmodified except for sweetheart grips and pin ups printed on photo paper underneath. The WW2 model.

So, when I comes to 1911's, is it better (subjective word) to buy a MIL-SPEC and upgrade, or spend a little more and get those extra features built in?

Some of my AZ peeps have the 4" and more custom TISAS 1911s and love them, their quality and price point.

I've got experience with a 5" Tisas "Duty" model in 9mm and an ATI 4.25" .45 "GI."

Between these two, the Tisas seemed to be the better pistol. There were much less machining marks on the Turkish gun, and there were sharp edges all over Philippine made pistol.
Less than 500 rounds on each, but the ATI broke the safety lever pin while shooting and had to go back for warranty. I will say that they sent a pre-paid shipping label and we had the gun back in just a couple of weeks.

Would polishing the feed ramp fix that issue?
Probably not (though maybe). Polishing the feed ramp should be a last resort - the geometry of it and spacing with other parts are critical dimensions and it's easy (and expensive) to polish it out of spec.
I've seen this from multiple sources around the net, but here's one: https://rangehot.com/polishing-feed-ramp-government-model-bad-idea/
For guns that don't like hollow points, I'd recommend different mags (always my first goto on the 1911) and after that, check the extractor tension (a too-tight extractor adds friction to the load process) and the recoil spring.
