Anyone else into AR10’s?

After enjoying shooting and loading for AR15, I got the idea to try a large frame. Wanting to test the water before diving in, I started with a PSA PA10 in .308.

wow these are great fun to shoot. I am amazed at the light recoil of the AR vs a bolt action. Ringing steel is habit forming. Need to stretch this one out and see how it does at longer ranges. Will be developing a load around the 168 SMK.

Please share your favorite loads and thoughts for glass on the large frames

I bought a Ruger SFAR a little over a year ago and really like it. I'm getting @ 1MOA with factory 168gr. using a Sig 1-10X LPVO.

built a couple from Aero M5 upper and lower (308 and 6.5CM), parts are not as 'universal' as AR15s, but can mix and match a few things to customize

I can hit 1000 yard targets with them, what makes that fun is you can get 2-3 shots in the air before the first one hits

The Aero M5 is DPMS style compatible, but I prefer the A5 buffer tube setup. Not sure I would mess with a factory built gun to convert to A5, but the recoil impulse is noticeably softer with the A5 tube, H3 buffer and Sprinco red power spring, superlative adjustable gas block

I’ve had a few AR-10 pattern rifles. I’m down to 3 now. My KAC SR-25 match (pre MK11 config) from 1993 shoots lights out with 168gr FGMM @ 3/4” MOA consistently and can get down easily to 1/2” @ 100yds if weather is cooperating. My other 2x KAC SR-25’s are good shooters. The ACC model shoots average 3-4”- MOA , while my M110 surplus upper is MOA+ dependent on ammo. Most of the time I shoot 168gr FGMM. Tried some older 70’s LC M118 and is not s accurate with too many fliers, so I use it to pop steel to 630 yds.

You say AR 10, but there are 2 different patterns. I preferred the DPMS pattern, not sure if thats the pattern Palmetto uses. They are more easily "hot rodded". Rock River uses the Armalite pattern.

Don't quote me, and double check your manuals but almost positive my pet load was 43.5gr varget with the 168SMK or Nosler custom comp. I used both bullets interchangeably cause they are pretty much identical.
A good steel adjustable gas block is a must. Don't remember what steel one I replaced the JP with. I remember it had a detent adjusment. The aluminum JP is junk if you are going to actually shoot the rifle, rather than keep it in a safe.
I shot hell out of mine.

My stage 5 performance wasn't nearly as impressive....so I never post that one.

I'm glad there are no videos of the first stage, first time I ever shot the DMM at Woody.

Gas block I had was identical but not that brand.
